New York Marathon

Around the world, the word “marathon” evokes images of New York City. Before the New York race began, marathons were modest events attended and run by a few athletes and sports fans interested in the limits of human endurance. New York Road Runners and marathon co-founder Fred Lebow changed that. The race attracts many world-class professional athletes, not only for the more than $600,000 in prize money, but also for the chance to excel in the media capital of the world before two million cheering spectators and 315 million worldwide television viewers. As any one of the more than 700,000 past participants will attest, crossing the finish line in Central Park is one of the great thrills of a lifetime. Find out more

On the 26th May 2011 50 cyclists from the UK & Ireland traveled to Geneva to start this years Hearts And Minds Cycling Challenge to raise funds to support the cardiology department at The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and Families living with autism in the UK & Ireland. They were joined by Keith Duffy our patron as they set of to cycle from Geneva to Monaco traveling through 4 countries in 4 days along some of the toughest stages in the Tour De France and Giro d’Italia. This was a truly challenging event and all the cyclists pushed them selves both physically and mentally past any limits they thought they had spending up to  11 hours a day in the saddle and spending an average of 5 hours a day cycling up hill as they took on the Alps. This was a great achievement by all who took part and they raised a tremendous amount in sponsorship for our causes.
